Hi guys, I’m at the point where I’m reconnecting the transfer box and main gearbox but still need to tighten the mainshaft nut (I’ve made the tool as others have from a large socket) I’m under the impression it needs to be 85 lb ft - How do I lock the shaft to do the nut up? It was finger tight when I disassembled the box! Thanks!

exact torque isnt vital as a tab has to be aligned, you tighten nut before you fit the top so you can engage 2 gears

Thanks chaps, all worked a treat, only annoyance now is that I assembled the transfer box to the main box, all going so well, reading the manual and put the gasket in with grease when I’ve a tube of gasket sealer on the shelf! Oh well, it wouldn’t be a Land Rover if I had used it :)
