Hi all,

Ive got a 2000 Discovery TD5, auto, when it changes gear it goes in with a thud, not bad at high speed, but worse at low speed? it almost feels like I'm being hit from behind.....
Going from R or N to D it takes a second or to to engage.

Any ideas? Torque Converter? Gearbox?

Solutions? costs? HHHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!!!!!

Many Thanks all.

I had the same problem with a 2001 volvo v40 auto. It went into a main dealership with an electrical fault on the A/C. When I went to pick it up it and putting it into reverse it was as if someone had hit the front of the car and a massive thump. Reversed about 10 feet ok but on then putting it in drive another big thump as if I had just dumped the clutch on a manual gearbox but hadn't moved. Didn't try driving it. After a lot of testing and discussion they decided that I had fried the gearbox ecu when I started the engine even though it had been in for an electrical problem. €600 later and the only spare part brought in from Holland.

Has yours been in for repair or had any other problems with the electrics lately?

Other than this experience I had I'm afraid I can't help

The first thing I would be doing is to change the oil in the gearbox. You'll need 5ltrs of atf Dexron III.
