Anyone had an issue before when the clutch hub and shaft have split and the shaft outer sleeve has tried to unwind itself?

The garage are telling this

This should be one complete part but has been been subject to a force which has caused the shaft to break from the hub and actually unwind it. I have never come across this before. All other components in the gearbox are fine.

It appears that the transmission has been subjected to a force outside of its working design capabilities to create such damage.

What vehicle / transmission is it out of, i think the early A clutch drums failed but dont recall it unwinding. Bemble is your man if he is still about.

And another reason the TD6 with the GM5 box needs a good coat of looking at if you are thinking of buying one with spotty history, in the 'Danger Zone' mileage (80-130k miles), cheap, too good to be true etc etc.....

They will all fail either from this shaft issue, valve block issue or both....it is not 'if' but 'when'.

A really really good engine ruined by a crap gearbox!

Agree, but if the gearbox was rebuilt 20 months ago( for a so called better build quality than when new,) should this part have also been changed at the time of re-build?

But what would they change it for, another **** part I think. What a bugger when you spend for a "better quality" rebuild and end up off the road. Have you contacted the rebuilder?

Yes
It's currently with them at the moment,
Awaiting to be collected on Tuesday, just want to get my facts all sorted for then.
