Well. I got my coolant temperature issue looked at last week at the garage (lrr.co.uk) along with a service etc. She's going back next week for some bushes / roll bar / suspension / tracking bits and she was to have her transmission serviced. I got 4 new tyres on her yesterday.

Friday I was stuck in traffic on my way home (at eleven o'clock at night, you've got to love London. :) and she held onto each gear until about 4k rpm. I had a look on here and I suspect it's that thing it does to preserve the transmission oil temperature by passing as much of it over the rad as possible (at least that's how I read it)

Anywho, I went for a run to deepest darkest Essex yesterday and she was fine although I wasn't stopped for any length of time there or back.

Today I (again) got caught in traffic and she did the same thing. High revs before changing up. No errors on display yet and I've not had the allcomms out but I pulled up and let her cool down for half an hour and she was fine.

I'm going to give the garage a call tomorrow to let them know but I'm guessing that whatever they did to fix the coolant temperature / airlock issue has either crudded up the bottom of the rad or somethingorother so I'm guessing she probably needs a new radiator whilst she's in?

Is that about right? Is there anything I can do in the meantime until she goes in the shop in 10 days or do I just take it easy?

Thanks folks.

Thanks. What should I do about driving her? I've not had any errors yet but when stuck in traffic both times I've had the high revs / reluctance to change up.

I believe Saint had this problem, the lower part of the rad does block up which i believe causes a problem with the transmission cooler that feeds off of it which in turn overheats the oil and causes the cool down process to start. the boxes are fairly fragile as is so you don't want to be overheating them. A transmission oil and filter change would be a good idea once the cooling issue is resolved but make sure you only use the relevant mobil oil and genuine filter.

I'm sure saint wont be far away

Cheers for that. She's booked in the garage for a transmission service in ten days. I'll ghave be them a ring and mention it. Might be worthwhile changing out the radiator as they are t that expensive are they?

Rads are about £100 i think, check with Saint as he knows loads more than me. i changed out my transmission cooler and pipes which are more money but you shouldn't need that.

Been out in her just now and on the A13 she was fine. Ended up taking a drive to St. Lawrence Bay and the winding roads must have taken their toll on her as she started doing it again. Stopped for a drink and she was ok most of the way home but she ended up balding the revs after a while. It was just as I got to a dual carriageway at national speed limit so I was unsure as to whether to sit at 70 and let the wind flowing across the radiator help cool her down or pull over.

In any case there weren't any errors or warnings on the dahs so I kept driving. Sure enough after a short while she stopped holding onto the revs and started driving normally again.

That said she doesn't half sound aggressive when driving in holding onto revs mode. lol

Andy is spot on (again - learning well young Grasshopper :D:D:D)

The bottom hose of the main rad is above the bottom and these last few rows below the hose clog up, the feed to the gearbox oil cooler is taken from this lower portion and flow gets restricted to it, effectively reducing the flow to a dribble - useless!

Also, depnding on the frequency of the gearbox fluid change, the cooler itself can clog up reducing its efficency.

I changed the cooler, stat and back plate when I had similar and this solved the issue, but I had also changed the rad about 6 months before.

Thanks Saint. I'm
No good with a set of spammers so I'm going to mention it to the garage when it's going in next week and say that I'm
Ok with a new rad / cooler / etc. she's getting a gearbox service as well so I'm hoping it's all good after that.

i was just keeping him entertained until you turned up mate - no cuff to tough !, you will notice most of my advice contains the words possibly, maybe, should and i think..:) we both kneel before the Almighty Bemble :D

i do know that one of the most important things about changing the oil in the ZF5HP24 4.4 box is that you use the mobil LT71141

Mobil ATF LT 71141 Automatic Transmission Fluid 5 x 1 Litres

Always best to add a question mark after your post, important to cover your arse.:D:D

If you have a known transmission cooling issue DON'T sit stationary in traffic with D selected.

Top Tip Wammers thanks. (Oddly enough I almost always put an auto in Neutral and put the handbrake on in traffic so it turns out I'm doing something right for once! :)
