Did you check the gearbox oil level using the correct proceedure?
Normally mine needs 1500rpm to start moving from cold, less when it's all warmed up.

Yer also checked then I got a new gear oil rad coming will fit it and service the filter and see if that helps

Just a thought - check the brakes or handbrake aren't binding. Mine starts to move even at tickover (about 850) on the flat, forward or reverse.
And yes again to the Lucas transmission fix ... good stuff tho' hard to get in its so thick

Your car is idling to quickly should be 750 plus or minus 50. :)

I estimated about 850 on start up from cold. Should it be less? Will it be less once warm? How can it be adjusted?
About 1000rpm immediately on a cold start, dropping fairly quickly to 750 +/- 50 rpm as it warms up.
It can be adjusted with diagnostics. It may have been raised to disguise a problem.

Thanks - that's about what it does. I'm reassured. The only problem now with the tickover speed is that, once it has slowed down when warm, it is just at the right speed to vibrate the roof! As mentioned in a previous post ,the sticky seems to have come away between the crossmembers and the roof itself, hence it vibrates. A job for the summer, take out the headlining and sort...

You may like to consider taking a look at the engine mounts. :)
