P38-FYFEY

Hi all
My 1995 4.6 HSE has been laid up a week now with EAS FAULT, went to move it out of the garage into the daylight to fix the suspension (about 30 yards) and "gearbox fault" has come up on the dash??? Seems ok but any ideas?
Regards
Steve

Really? It's still charged up but not quizzing over as fast as it would in everyday use. But why/ how would that do that?
Cheers for reply buddy.

the p38 can be really funny about batteries even with a slightly weak battery it will throw up fault messages, the common ones are gearbox fault and alternator fault.

Cheers tommo, so hopefully nothing to worry about then. Mind you it's got a new battery and alternator on it and it has alternator fault coming up too but I've always disregarded that.
Do you think the alternator fault just wants clearing?
Cheers matey.

Alternator fault is either due to a duff alternator or a wiring fault between the alternator and the BECM, does the charge light go out on the dash?
Fix the problem and the fault message will go away. Never ignore fault messages on the P38 or you will make trouble for yourself.

Hi DATATEK

Hope your well my friend, it has a brand new alternator on it and battery. ??? No lamps lit on dash just the fault message. Strange thing with this p38 is it has a extra switch for the instrument panel lights deity headlamps on at night and there is no back lighting on panels/speedo etc... Flick the switch and they come on? Obviously owned by some prick in the past... Arrrrrrgh... Can see me being under this bonnet more and more.
Regards as always

Just because it's a new alternator doesn't mean it actually works correctly, but could be a problem with the BECM

i used to have Alt fault, gear box fault and eas faults at ramdom when my battery was knackered!! held charge but didn't like a draw on the battery, replaced it and no more faults.
