Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how I identify which type of gearbox my 1999 manual Freelander MKI has. Are they are certain type for a certain year/model etc.?

I think my reverse light switch has gone as that is the only part in the loop that I have not checked & I need to order the correct part.

Thanks

+1;
1.8 petrol and 2.0 diesel had the same gearbox

Gearbox Reverse Light Switch part number CDU51

If your looking to buy a cheap switch on e bay - mine arrived a tad longer - when screwed in the rev lights stayed on and reverse gear was very stiff ..looking for a suitable washer in't shed after mi cup o tea :)

Thank you all for your help, it's good to get help from you guys.

I did notice last night that it appears to be working again however! Has this happened to anyone & is it just a case of crud around the switch or something else do you think?

Check the connectors as they are prone to corrosion. The switch can stop working too. I've cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner sprayed through the gap between the body and the plunger.
