Hi,

The gearbox breather (see attachment) on the top of the gearbox on my S3 leaks a lot. I thought it was the selector shafts, but I cleaned it all and its the breather. Are they replaceable/repairable or an I better of sealing it up and installing a remote breather?

Thanks, GDL.

It looks like this is an ex-military gearbox, and what you have in the picture is actually the removable filler cap, and is not a breather, but;

- it's upside down
- it's missing a large chunky O ring seal
- it's missing the thin leaf spring which holds the cap in place

The breather is actually further back on the gearbox, and is effectively machined into the gearbox casing, andisn't a removable part.

Yes, I can imagine that the oil is peeing out of there! The advantage of sorting this out,if you also have the gearbox tunnel panel with a large access hole & grommet in the top is that you can top up the oil from above rather than fiddling about trying to get oil in through the normal filler in the side of the gearbox.

Ahhhhh! Yes it will be a military gearbox That would explain why I was struggling to find replacement parts. Yes, filling from under is a pain. In the short term, I can seal it up and it'll have no negative impact.

Thanks - a really useful piece of information - much appreciated.

On Ebay item 401733001276, you'll see a picture showing how the oil cap should look.

The only part number I know is the leaf spring; it's 6419

I did buy a new O ring for mine ages ago, but, I haven't been able to find the invoice to find the part number
