Hi I am picking up my defender 90 td5 in a month or so, it will have been converted to an automatic.
I was wondering if anyone has any success in fitting a gear shift lock, used to be called a Multilock years ago ( my dad had one fitted to his old Ford Escort ), looks like a big "U" shaped bolt that fits around the gear selector and locks into a bracket bolted to the gearbox tunnel.
Does any one know where in the UK supplies them still ?
I have seen cheap Chinese copy's on the net.

Unfortunately Mul-T-Lock have discontinued all gearlocks.
Hi Flufy. New member here...wondering if you ever had any joy with the Mul-T-Lock? I happen to have the genuine article; I see from OLD adverts that it should fit to the chassis but buggered if I can suss it out!
 
Personally I wouldn't bother with a lock on the shifter as they are so easily bypassed and instead concentrate on the "normal" methods of securing the vehicle (steering-wheel lock, pedal lock, battery isolator, steering lock shield, door deadlocks etc).
My 300TDi is an auto and I can't see how (without carrying out some kind of reinforcing around the base of the console) anything could be mounted securely to prevent the shifter being moved and even if it was, unclipping the end of the cable from the 'box and moving the selector into Drive is the work of a couple of seconds.

Your argument has merit & I personally wouldn't consider fitting the Mul-T-Lok device if I didn't already have one! And OMG what a price they were when they were available to buy!:eek: Since my first post I have discovered another old advert that mentions that in order for this lock to be effective, it must be secured to the vehicle by bolting it to a steel plate that has been PROFESSIONALLY welded to the chassis. Much hassle! Thinking eBay...
