Hi,
Can anyone advise me? Should there be a definite gate on an '81 Landy. When i try to select 1st I invariably get reverse. 3rd is quite tricky as well.
Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I did a number of searches for 'gate' 'selection' etc and found nothing. Thats why I postage my original message.

Many thanks. Its all there.

Its taken me a bit of time to reliably find first on my S3 - I was going over into reverse sometimes. Push left, hit the gate carefully, and then just back central a touch and then up.

On my learner car it was hard left and hard up for first gear, with a locking ring for reverse. Ah, I was spoiled...

tis my landrover he's asking about! Yes it takes a while to get used to lining up where first is but it engages fine and has never jumped out of gear etc. Just dont go too far left as it is reverse, as it is an old design too, would something like this warrant a £700 drop in asking price, also it appears the heater has stopped, it was heating and blowing until very recently (yes on a series!), but that's about it! Was only asking £1700 is a series 3 1982, no chassis probs, new front legs and springs, new bulkhead to chassis lower brackets. Is this an unreasonable price to put it up for?
Cheers, trying to sell it as baby on way but any advice on a price appreciated!
Cheers

700 hundred quid drop cos teh revese is sloppy? tell him i'll fix it and he can give me the 700 notes

taint sloppy! it engages just fine he's on about when he tried to put it into first he hit reverse!

the reverse gate has two springs on it... tighten the fookers and it will be stiffer so yer less likely to hit reverse instead of furst

yup thanks, do that now! He's not gonna buy it, Series 3 swb anyone? Got to go, but not for a silly price!
