Hi there,
new forum member - X-pat living in Switzerland.

I need some help - hope I have come to the right place!

My Freelander went in for its MOT yesterday and failed on 1 point.

The gear leaver has to much play in it. I hope I'm supplying enough info...Please ask if not.

The Haynes manual doesnt help.

Can anyone give me some advise on what parts I need to get and advise on the fitting.

Many thanks

Welcome Jeremy1 :D
More info please:
1. What age is the Freelander?
2. How many miles has it covered?
3. What colour is it?
4. Did the MOT station not specify exactly what was wrong? I didn't realise a loose gear stick was an MOT failure.

Welcome to the forum!
Too much play in the gear stick? Thats not an MOT failure over here at least.
Did they say the actual lever or the linkage below the car?

Hi there...thanks for the answers so far.....I'll do your answers in one post. The freelander is metalic grey new on the 15.09.99. 145 872 kms on the odometer. The Swiss MOT standards are a lot more stingent than in UK.The gear leaver has to much play......which in turn - me thinks - refers to the the underside of the vehicle and specificaly to the rod assemly-change and bushes - joints - etc......I'm going off what little Haynes manual has to offer and what I can see from under the vehicle..I have pictures of THE offending bits...I think! back to you the experts. CheersJeremy
