Hi

Thanks again for the information you posted re possible problem with my 2007 3.6TDV8 gearbox.

My guru has asked me to ask you how available are the EDS solenoids shown how much are they and where can we get them. Is it likely that more than one is faulty.

Any other information you think might be useful would be much appreciated.

Regards

Digel

Why would the rear axle make it shuuder? I think you are being overly optimistic, gearbox on the way out IMO.

it changes gear engages properly and never misses a beat , and it feels from the rear end , but as i have no range rover experience i will take all advice it the light it is offered . so oil and filter very soon as a precaution .

maybe even service the valve body . how much is a service kit anyone know 2002 4.4 petrol

Other than the ‘standard’ 2-1 rollout shift (clunk) issue and the seizing selector lever cable clamp (drops into neutral) problem there appear to be incredibly few issues reported with the 6HP26 which, considering it’s been around for twelve years now and there are millions of Gen. 1 units on the road, is quite remarkable. The only other issue I’ve noticed coming to light, particularly over the past year or so, are solenoid issues with the Mechatronic unit. I suspect this may be your problem.

Unlike with the 5-speed boxes, ZF have not made individual parts available for the Mechatronic unit, preferring to sell it as a complete unit (and, because the transmission ECU is integrated into the ECM which bolts to the valve block, this allows the units to be pre-calibrated at the factory). However, recently ZF have started making solenoid kits available.

In order of cost :

1. If you take it to a dealer, they will replace the whole transmission.

2. If you take it to a transmission repair shop, they will replace the complete Mechatronic unit.

3. If you want to isolate the fault and identify the particular solenoid(s) that’s causing the issue, you will have to do it yourself I’m afraid. I personally would start by swapping EDS 2 & 4 to see if the problem moves with it.

You must use the correct grade of oil for the ZF box....read my How To in the How To section on filter and fluid change!

Thoses pics are of the 6 speed box from the later model Range Rover....yours, though similar, is different!

the 740 box is the same (ZF 5HP24)
