recently bought a manual Disco TD5 from Rossleigh Newcastle.

After a couple of Days gears difficult to change, especially third. took it back, two mechanics tested found nothing wrong. asked service boss to jump in and test it with me and found gear problem, replaced with new gearbox under warranty, next day wife could not get it into third gear, day after I drove and found exactly same problem difficulty changing gears again especially third. took it back and Landrover mechanic test drove and identified same trouble, difficulty engaging third gear, he informed "new box needs replacing". Back at Newcastle service boss informed " will order one straight away" I then asked if I could have the work done at Durham as it is nearer to where I live. He said yes just tell Durham to contact me and I will inform them the problem has already been Identified by us.

contacted Durham and they agreed to do the work and informed me in the office that they have ordered the new box, drop vehicle off wednesday (today) morning. this I did

Wed afternoon recieved call asking about problem as they had drove it 10 mile on test and found nothing wrong. caller seemed to want to work his ticket and argue the point ( clock showed less than 6 ) got taxi to Durham £11.00p got vehicle, hit first roundabout, about 500 yards third gear raw as ever.

I told them it was already Identified and it was in for work only, then I was informed they will not do it as they need to Identify it themselves.

I contacted Newcastle to see if they would then do it, they agreed.

I dropped it off at Newcastle and phoned later to be told that they were not going to do it now, as a Landrover rep had been up regarding a different matter and test drove my venicle after which he then refused to agree the work after a 29 mile run. ( same distance as Newcastle -Durham & back no doubt)

The problem is exactly the same as the first box and I am sick as a parrot at the way I am getting the run around, wish I had never bought the thing now as it is turning into a white elephant and costing me a bomb running around, with no vehicle, Fob off, after Fob off. I even started to believe they never changed the original box due to the similarity of the problems.

It seems they do not want to pay twice for the same work,about £1160.00p each time. any advice as to what I can do. main problem up into third,(feels as though it is hitting the teeth) down into second (very stiff), and first at times.(stiff) Their mechanic identified the problem with the new box at less than a mile.

warranty left about four mth, with Landrover & ten with company, now seems worthless

Never expected this, thought they were a decent company. feel well and truley done over.
 
When you say recently, do you mean within 30 days?

Was the purchase place a official LR dealer, if so I thought they had a 30 day return policy.
 
bought in May,firm is official Landrover dealer, already had one gear box change. Had run out with sevice boss today, but no problem. He cannot authorise any work untill he can verify the problem, but the problem is not always there it occurrs intermitantly. problem I have is having technition or rep present. Agreed to keep a record, and Rossleigh said they would have the vehicle for a few days if it continues. so I,m going to record occurances and see what happens over the next week or so. Rossleigh boss even re-inbursed me about £20.00p Diesel, so fingers crossed.

Ive just got 3 question's to ask you.

1. How long have you owned the Disco ?

2. Have you spoken to Land Rover head office ?

3. Have you informed trading standards ?

Im not being nosey !!!!! HONEST !!!!! But if your vehicle is subject to any form of hire purchase then have a chat with them about the problem aswell !!!!!!!

had it since May this year, havnt spoken to anyone yet, was going to contact trading standards asp, but will give it a week or so to see how it goes, its difficult as I now have to have it witnessed by a qualified Landrover mechanic or company rep, and as its not all the time how can I do this ?. the company is about 25 miles away.

tonight definate problems, can feel hitting the teeth of the cogs dropping into second and up into third.

I wouldn't hold your breath with trading standards. I contacted them when I had been sold my old MG ZS from a dealer, who had put a tax disc not belonging to the car on the windscreen. I only noticed when washing the car. Then I contacted the DVLA who said that it wasn't taxed and that I should do it immediately. Trading standards were a joke and in my opinion a waste of a phone call

Had it out today, went to Kielder forrest and Bamburgh, done about 250 miles, still trouble 2nd & 3rd gears, Hitting the teeth lots of times, tried every which way I can regarding driving position and methods but it still wont go in smoothly, Having op on my legs tomorrow in Hospital for two days, so ill not be driving for a few days, but think I may get the AA to give it an official test as their word should be independant. Its a shame as its a nice motor otherwise and drives mint in higher gears.
 
Just a thought, have a 2003 TD5 with 26k on it, If I dont have the clutch fullly down or try and rush the change, it does nick a little.

It's no racing box for sure, and although LR have tried to make it a posh motor, it's underpinnings are still very commercial.

Having jumped out of my company motor (a new 3 series bm) it's does seem behind the times!!

Rossleigh the company, informed me about the gearchange niggles etc, as with others well experienced, about the nicks etc, and I have accepted this. I even test drove a similar motor. but what is happening is more severe than the accepted norm, in fact their own mechanic experienced it,and informed me the new gearbox has to be changed because of it. This they agreed to, but since getting involved with Rossleigh, Durham, who I was informed never contacted Newcastle at all, it seems they have done a U turn, and are refusing to do this. The vehicle had 29,000 miles when bought,

Trying to find a way through this, but feel well miffed, but have to go to hospital in a couple of hours, and will not be able to do anything for a while.

certianly think I made a big mistake now.
