Thanks lynall, a part supplier "specialised" in Landy in the UK may have some old stocks verified or not ? Happy to take any suggestionI would hazard a guess that number is just the casting number, and not the part number.
I do not think anyone is still commercially rebuilding series gearboxes anymore?

Excellent !! No it is not my garage on the picture (I wish !!) but the pro mechanics who is kind enough to accept to help me fixing this issue. Yes for now he only opened the transfer box cover (picture posted) and we were considering changing the whole gear box as a simpler more efficient option.....if we find a replacing gear box.Is that your garage or the mechanics , if yours, I’m impressed and you will have all the gear to fix anything on it
If mechanics, did he only remove that bottom cover to identify problem
What was the landy doing or not doing when you were driving it that highlighted the issue

thanks tottot, yes that is right, I am not very clear, the picture I posted is the "tranfer box", I was assuming with the mechanic helping me that it could be cheaper, easier to change the whole gear+transfer box vs repairing only the "shutlle" and the bearing of the transfer box on the assumptions that 1) a full certified transfer only box may be as expensive as a gearing +transfer box and 2) the gearing box beeing as old as the Landy (1969) it may be worth changing it now and avoids another costly intervention in x weeks on monthsJust to get this right when you are talking to people the box you are looking at is the " transfer box" and it is a separate part to the main gear box it is bolted to and can be removed to be worked on or changed leaving main box in place
Thanks totott I will lokk in this directionI doubt very much the main gearbox is the original from 1969, the casing may well be but likely it will have had a rebuild or two in that time. Drain and check its oil and if good, works in all gears?[ no metal bits come out] New oil and away to go.
The transfer box goes on well, running with low oil about only thing that damages them. Just rebuilt my 1977 series 3 main box. Checked the transfer but all that was needed was new seals.
Yours looks pretty good inside. Looks like the bearing to the front output case has failed. Replace this and it is likely the gear dog [ shuttle ] will work again.
