Have recently suffered a flat battery (on a '97 P38 4.6 Auto HSE) & as well as the stereo requiring an unknown code, the battery didnt seem to hold charge. During this time i've been getting gear box fault coming up on the display but no other symptons.
New battery this morning & on parking up tonight i noticed the small red l.e.d. next to the gear lever is staying illuminated (ie the led for P stays on even after keys out & doors locked)
i tried all postions & in each position the light stays on, though varies in brightness, only the 3 position seems to keep the light out - could this be causing battery drain ??
if so any one any ideas whats causing it & how to cure it
I tried taking out fuses number 3 (5amp) &fuse 4 (30Amp) but made no difference

thanks in anticipation

my P38 does the same. although ive never bothered about it and have always left it in park, not sure whether the LED would be on in other posistions. Anyway, having wondered about this when I first got mine I searched some forums and the general thoughts are that the LED switches off when the BeCM goes to sleep, so lock the car and then wait for a few mins and see if the light goes off (might be difficult with tinted windows). Always leave the vehicle in park though, if you dont this can be a cause of battery drain.

Also if you are still getting battery drain I would be inclined to think it was somrthing else, like the BeCM not sleeping due to maybe something like being constantly woken up by a closeby radio transmission. In which case you would need to replace the little radio reciever that is used for the key fob. Im not sure of the exact part number at the moment but i'm sure someone will let you know.

Before doing anything I would lock up the vehicle, go and have a drink or something then come back and look through to see if the lights still on, if it is then I guess you might have a prblem.
