P38 4.0 petrol sump gasket does it need to be replaced by a new one or can silicon sealer be used?
Removing it this weekend and will need to get either newun or some sealer.

Given it is the petrol I'd get a new gasket and use Hylomar as well.
 
RTV is silcone, perfectly fine on metal sumps..,....and L322 valley pans.

Indeed I use RTV on the valley gasket notches (those are on V8's). As per RAVE.

I guess the sarcasm didn't come through

Yep Silicone lubricant and room temperature vulcanising Silicone do possess slightly different properties. :D:D;)
