I replaced the radiator etc at the time of conversion and have had no probs but I assume you could change the fan to a kenlow and have it kick in earlier not sure if that would help.I also had it chipped by powerchips cost 200 quid but had the engine mapping.
I drive mine really hard so if it was a real problem would have shown up by now
Hope this helps

Gas and the P38 i converted one of mine a couple of years ago the thing to rememeber if you want the car to run correctly with no miss fires you need a multi point system so its going to cost a little more, you can get away with a single point but be ready for a few backfires if you go down this route convert the air intake to a cone filter and ensure that a leonardo has been fitted. Other things to do are upgrade the ignition leads and adjust the sparkplugs.

Thank you for your replies

As most of us have, I have spent a lot of time and money since I purchased my 1995 4.6 so I would like to keep it running for quite some time. So far no expense spared, if I do go down the gas route I would like to be sure that I do not damage the engine. ( As far as I can be she seems to have had an easy life so far and the engine appears to sound and work well. Last MOT the guy said very clean running engine. whatever that means.)

So to sum up should I ?

Get my major service done first as this is due soon?
Ask the mechanic if he can see any reason why I should not go to gas and get any fixes done first?
Go for a multipoint sequential set up by the installer?
What type of tank is best?
As I have a gammy hip should I carry the spare wheel or one of the squirty things if I have a doughnut tank fitted? ( I carry a wheel chair)
What other things should I look for?

Thank's for your help

Fred

mines single point, standard gap plugs, and standard leads. it has a leonardo contoller fitted and a cone filter. the backfiring problem comes from (or at least on mine) the gas ring bieng the type that secures with one grub screw and therefore is not symetrical in the plenum so can leak air and thus alter the mixture uncontralably, i have seled the ring to the plenum with some liquid metal stuff, also i have changed the plugs for new ones as the old were in poor condition, and intend to change them every six months. as yet no more backfires.

the other thing to do is to rig the gas vap. in series with the heater matrix instead of t'd off, this ensures full power water flow through the gas vap and heater. the gas is then at a good temp to combust!! i think it needs to be about 20 deg c before it will combust easily.

get the best system you can possibly afford, get the highest capacity 4 hole tanks you can, i have 110 litres and it hold 94 ltrs gas, they are cyliders in the wheel well. join the aa for 13 a month, if your disabled you will get priority service.

the major services do more than just the engine, it is always worth getting the service done but changing the brakes wont effect the running of the engine!!!

the multipoint often known as the sgi is the most modern so should be the best for injected cars.

also ask for satisfied customers and go see them, get thier opinion of the installer.

make sure the system is installed safely and in a neat manner so as not to cause problems later

I have a sequential system fitted to my 4.6, i have the doughnut tank in the spare wheel well and also have to carry a wheel chair / mobility scooter as my wife is disabled. I carry 2 cans of the emergency tyre repair, but after using this the tyre should be replaced not repaired, (i was a tyre fitter for 11 years this liquid stops the repair adhesives sticking properly). Alternatively there is a product that can be put into the tyres that will prevent punctures, (provided they don`t exceed a certain size), and so removes the need to carry a spare.
Hope this helps

No but Redrange above you did :D

I beg your pardon! wasn't me, lol...think you got confused with the author of this thread "redrenger89" wasn't me!!

I have lpg on my 4.6, it was already fitted when i brought it, a Tartarini multi point injection system and i would have another with out lpg, apparently they do run hotter but i haven't seen evidence of this in the nearly 4 years i had it as far as the gauge goes!!

I may stick me fault reading software on and check coolant temp for gas and petrol to see if there any difference passed on to he coolant sensor?

Performance wise i can say the only real noticeable difference is under hard acceleration from 80 70/80 upwards....then petrol is slightly better but for day to day driving its wonderfull....

Oh and apparently lpg is better for the engine that petrol as it dont was the oil from the cylinder walls before combustion!!

I too have a multipoint system and it runs fantastic, the only thing i dislike is, i just wish i had a larger tank, donut tanks are fine but i just get fed up having to keep filling it every 200 miles.
Changed my engine oil 3000 miles ago and it's still the same colour as when i put it in .
