Im going to have a look at a galvanised rolling chassis tomorrow. its got tdci axles front and back. the chassis was a 2014 chassis which has been blasted and galvanised new engine mountings fitted for a 300tdi. the only question I have would the chassis fit my 1996 110 been that the chassis is of a 2014 model. also roughly whats it worth, 2014 chassis galvanised, and front and rear tdci puma axles. I think the radus arms etc have been powder coated.

I think a more important question might be what registration paperwork it comes with. There are others that will know a lot more on the subject but chassis / axles etc all form points towards keeping your registration number. As I understand it too many changes on a restoration / rebuild on a different chassis may end up on a Q plate. Be wary!

thanks for the information I never really thought about that. I'll email him and ask about the v5 etc. thinking its not really worth the hassle

Remove any numbers off the chassis if there is any and fit as a new replacement. Really depends how much difference between this and a new galvanised chassis in terms of money.

Like my bitsa? SSSSHHHHHH. :rolleyes::confused:

And by the way I think if it's basically a direct replacement more than a modification you're okay. Eg a like for like engine swap doesn't necessarily mean you lose points and head towards a q plate. Where as a 2 inch lift kit as non standard would. I think changing body and dash engine type and suspension are the major parts that affect on points system?
Chassis is on there but it isn't very clear. It read to me when I looked if like for like which it basically is besides a few mounts no change. Like saw one guy used a disco chassis and made his own rear end so wasn't a 90 or 110 that kind of mod big points loss. It's actually a minefield

I didn't think a lift kit had an effect on registration, but it seems so from the link.

Any non standard suspension part can change your vehicles points. Some things worth more than others I can't remember exacts but there's a dvla list somewhere has like chassis mod x points non standard suspension y points and you can't exceed z points or you need it checking and a q plate. Or just don't tell them

It's in the link in a previous post above, that's where I saw the suspension mentioned. I knew about the points system, my 2a only just scrapes by!

Just a thought, does galvanising a chassis count as "modified" and lose 5 points?

Only reason I looked is mines abit of a bitsa. It's very interpretable like mine has changed from pickup to van type newer bulkhead new chassis new dash. Now dash I think gota say ye lose points but like chassis is new replacement only difference is diffirent tank mountings at back. Body is all standard but newer so not sure where stand suspension I'd lose cos lift engine was swapped before I purchased but not recorded so sod knows if I'd meet points or should be q plate. Then it's listed as utility aswell which I think is van type for some?? So maybe wasn't even originally a pickup. It's way too complicated considering it's big mechano

I'd say no its only like painting realistically. No changes under it.
Someone told me when I joined about someone who's 2a got done cos they fitted some spring system on back in place of leafs. So modified suspension chassis was altered. Coincidentally I know someone doing a similar mod using a disco rear quarter to fit springs welding to a 2a chassis.

I have no clue if I could peg mine for a pass. It's way too vague

Mine appears fairly standard, but has a 2.5 petrol engine from a 110, a Series 3 gearbox, and Series 3 axles. I reckon if I changed the springs for parabolics it would fail the originality test!

And rear bench seats covered in bus seat upholstery!

This is where I don't get it, cos all my parts are "standard" defender 90 parts. Cept the disco gearbox. Just from diffirent years... like body is tdci. Is that a mod? Or like for like replacement it's not clear it's not proper like for like but it's hardly a butchered up disco body or the ilk??? Same with engine it's a proper defender engine but a 300tdi rarther than origional petrol v8. Then colour gana change too.... I'm still undecided on whether to ask if needs a q plate lol.

any chassis which is radically altered is a fail ,parabolic springs in place or multi leaf is not a reason for fail its still leaf sprung ,,putting coils on a leafer would class as rad alteration and thus fail you can not legally use a second hand chassis unless you use the replacements chassis number and reg ,,,,but what dvla don't know about won't hurt them but do a proper job so as not to make it look like a ringer (which on your original cassis number it would be)

I think chassis I'll be alright just gana pin my old chassis plate on new one... just the rest to worry about now haha

Good to know. I bought the chassis new. Pity none of the rest of it works... maybe someday!
