Hi guys, i have got a new galvanised chassis fitted on my defender and was wondering wax oil it or not any thoughts on this cheers.

kept clean and unprotected is as good as anything as the old bumpers were, but waxoyl wouldnt hurt and better than paint

waxoyl or ankor wax certainly will do no harm

Ankor wax easier to inject into the box sections and better at dispelling any water

yes as its sticky ,nothing will stick to galv forever as unless it can be kept completely dry ,even paint will get moisture behind it eventually it sheds due to electriclitical action , thats what the galv is a sacrificial coating ,just spray on and wash off and reapply as necessary

the galv is probably applied by imerssion of the parts into a tank of red hot zinc solution. you get a coating of so many microns thick as a result.

if you scrape the galv off it will be untreated steel exposed. you could always use a product like galvafroid to touch up any scratches. Fosroc Galvafroid Galvafroid Paint 400ml Tin - Galvfrd400Ml

I wonder if anyone has galvafroided their chassis and tested its longevity?

cheers,

marc

hi mark i have used galvafroid many years ago on a bench which has sat outside in all weather, and it is still as good today maybe 12years later amazing stuff, it is also used on ships,

I know what and how hot dip galv is applied. But dirt/mud sitting in the box rails holding moisture will set up galvanic reaction with the dirt, White rust on the galv and in time will come of faster than the out side.
