Hi Everyone.

Just been offered a galvanised chassis that appear that it would suit my 200tdi 90. Its from a non started project though, so we're not sure if there is any paperwork or anything to come with it and we're not sure who made it either.

If I build my car on to a chassis like that am I likely to run into problems with any of the bureaucratic powers that be, when it comes to swapping the VIN numbers over?

Don't tell anyone ...

A few pictures may identify the manufacturer. the construction on the main frame and the engine mounts, the dumb irons and the rear X-member all offer distinctive clues.

Hypothetically speaking of course, would that mean just stamping my VIN number into the new chassis and just getting on with life?

All I recognise on this chassis is that the rails are made from four flat sections and welded where they meet at the corners, rather than the C sections of the original chassis. Cant see any "RC" cut outs that might be expected from a Richards Chassis. What else could I look for?

You will only run into problem if it is an old chassis that has been galvnaised. the ID goes with the chassis so if it is a old chassis it takes the ID of that chassis. As that looks like a new chassis then is it is a like for like replacement and no different to any other new glav chassis replacement. Most glav chassis do not get stamped (myself included) as an uneven/mis aligned/non factory original stamp is likely to raise more eyebrows nd questions than just not having one on a replacement chassis. Just keep the dumb iron with the vin number on form your old chassis.

Fantastic. For some reason i had it in my head that you had to call VOSA out show them the chopped up old chassis etc, but im ever over thinking stuff, so this is no different.

Any idea what make that chassis is? Are there any manufacturers to avoid?

What if you have swept up and disposed of your dumb irons because they were 99.9% rust?
