Good evening I have just got a price for my 90 bulkhead to be sand blasted and galvanised £110 plus vat the only thing they said was that they could not guarantee that it would not distort, I am currently rebuilding my 90 and have brought a new galv chassis would any of you have your bulk head galvanised?

100% yes.

I have seen a galv bulkhead one in my brothers garage on his 88 inch rebuild I wouldn't do it it distorts shed loads very dissapointed with the distortion. I'd buy a new one and wax oil from new and plenty of it. Personally

If you do, remove the fly screens from behind where the dash vent flaps fit or you will have hours of poking the holes through with a sharp instrument if you want any air to come in.....

I brought a used bulkhead that was rust free.
I had it shot blasted and two pack marine primer sprayed on by a local firm (£65 for both)
I then got it home, seam sealed it all and keyed it slightly with scotch brite pad, then sprayed it myself with cellulose and thinners mixed at 50/50.
I've never painted before and it came out great!
I then hung the bulkhead upside down by it's feet and covered holes with tape and then sprayed clear waxoyl into every orrifice. I did it over 3days, moving bulkhead in different angles and staying different holes letting it part set in-between.
I managed to get 4litres in all to stay in the bulkhead and left it a week in a cool place before removing all the tape and fitting to the chassis.

I figure my bulkhead is good for another 15 years if treated right, much like the original..thus will easily outlast the chassis and engine/drive train so I'm happy.
Plus it only cost mr £65 to do.

In your case you are fitting a galv chassis, so if your engines in top order I'd galv the bulkhead too-for the extra cost you'll have everything last a long time without having to do anything structural.
Anyhow, bolt yourself a brace across the feet and footwells and the warping should be kept at bay :0)

I picked my bulkhead up from Frank Hand Galvanisers in Nottingham last friday and it does not seem to have distorted much at all. It stands very straight on the floor the only place I can see a little is in the footwells.

Great service from the galvanisers too dropped it off on the Thursday afternoon and picked it up the next day - £65 inc VAT

Brace the door pillars and the bottom and across the top, use metal and bolt it between the bulkhead mounting holes, and at the top across the windcreen holes or something. Then get it galved.

The bits that need to stay straight stay straight because they are heavier steel, the foot wells might ping out of shape a fraction but not a big worry really.

I know a couple of peeps have them on series and they havent distorted.I think the frames are too heavy to distort tho thin panels might.I intend to get mine done when I get tired of repairing it

did not distort on my 90,only problem really was I forgot to remove some bolts which just snap once galved,lots of tapping out to do,mine was £75 from a place in Dudley
