I had a bit of a melt down in the fusebox of my 89 defender.
One of the teminals got very hot and melted the fuse holder. I'm not sure why the fuse did not blow. Anyway can anyone tell me what circuits the two solitary glass fuses supply? The fuse holder that melted had a green wire and a white wire on either side. The other has a brown/white and white/black wire.

Green wire and a white wire on either side rear wash wipe should be 5 amp fuse.
Brown/white and white/black heated rear window should be 10 amp fuse

:welcome2:

Thanks very much.
I have just checked and the previos owner replaced the rear door with a split one.
He has cut the wires and left them hidden behind the light cover with no insulation!!

Any idea where I can purchase replacement fuse holders?

Assuming then you have no rear wash wipe or heated rear window....

Why bother...?

Just remove the fuses...

Sorted ;)

Err.......oh yeah.
However one of the other multiple fuse carriers appears to be broken. I would like to replace it / possibly with a later blade type carrier. Any part numbers for these?

Thanks

Land Rover sell the Blade Fuse Boxes separately, they're quite cheap, but using them would mean changing the Metal Panel for the later type and using the Genuine Terminals from Land Rover, which are silly-money -

Fuseblock (2 required) = PRC4826 - £5.65 inc VAT each

Connector to fit 0.5 - 1.0mm2 cable = STC4034 - £4.63 inc VAT each

Connector to fit 1.1 - 2.0mm2 cable = STC4035 - £6.30 inc VAT each

Connector to fit 2.5 - 3.0mm2 cable = STC4036 - £0.79 inc VAT each

Prices are Retail inc. VAT from Rimmer Brothers

A cheaper alternative is to adapt your existing panel and use 2 x aftermarket Fuse Boxes, such as FBB16U from Vehicle Wiring Products -

An excellent thread on how to do this was posted here -

Timing! lol
Just spent the day changing the fuse holders in my 84 110 to new style blade ones. Pretty straight forward - except.....I got side terminal blocks....and the length of wire available makes life difficult. Got away with it by improvising a back mounting panel...but would recommend using rear terminal blocks.

Thanks for this.
Wow the terminations are seriously silly money. May have to scratch around and find some alternatives.

Anyone got a diagram showing what cicuits each fuse feeds?
Beneagles you probably hae a good idea having just done yours.

my wind screen wipers wont stop , would it be a relay ? i want to pull the fuse to stop them running where is the fuse box on my defender 90 , thanks !

In front of the gearstick..its huge...and it should have a guide to the fuses on the back.

anyone know where the headlight and sidelight earths are located? there is power at the fuse box but no sidelights, i'm thinking exposed cable or earth come loose, if you put a fuse in she just blows when you switch them on. the headlights are funny as there is power to both on full and on dip, both work on dip but only drivers side will work on full, so same again i think, exposed or non-earthed. any advice appreciated.
