I am having a problem with my air suspension again! As soon as the car tells the compressor to go it blows the fuse as soon as it kicks in? The relays have been checked and changed to rule that out and the circuit is fine until the compressor is plugged in again and tries to go?? The compressor was bought off a member of this site in February and was brand new! And help would be much appreciated

You can by all means say you bought the compressor from me, unfortunately I cannot be held responsible for a part you have used since February for failing on your vehicle.
You did pm me and ask if I knew what the fault was, unfortunately I didn't as I haven't come across it before.
If I knew what it was I may have been able to help
 
How do you test it? If it has shorted is there a way of fixing it?

With a meter would think there is short to ground. Possibly brush gear or armature. Anything can be fixed if you have spare parts.
 
Any part can fail regardless of original source, heck I have bought stuff from Land Rover themselves and it has had a fault.

After 5 months of use would indicate the unit was OK when the sale went through...over time things can break.

Most parts suppliers offer a warranty/guarantee for X amount of time.

I am not sure on the details of sale from Kurt, but most private sales would infer that no warranty or guarantee is implied on the article and is sold as seen or as is/where is.

I am with Wammers, sounds like and internal short in the compressor motor more than likely.
 
That's fine I'm not pointing the finger at all and Kurt you a top bloke if it wasn't for your help in the 1st place I would'nt of been able to go on holiday and would of had an each ache of the MRS!!! ;) although there is a problem and I don't no what it is I just wanted abit of advice of where to start looking at the pump. Do you have anymore for sale Kurt if I can't fix this one?

That's a pretty short life for something sold as a new item. From a dealer I would send it straight back as "not of merchantable quality" more difficult on a private sale. If you had bought it from me it would be a case of send it back to me be checked and I would replace FOC if it had failed.
 
New or recon unit? I agree with Datatek - if its a new compressor I'd be pretty miffed if it only lasted 6 months.
Recon units often just have a seal kit fitted, so if there was worn brush gear etc then its only going to last a limited time. If you buy recon units private/ebay - you take your chances. Best rebuilding a 2nd hand unit yourself so you can check everything out.
 
Is the compressor getting hot but not running. If it's the same fuse that I blew (starter motor / eas compressor) then the compressor may be jammed. I replaced the seals and not long after (a few months) the piston arm broke in the compressor and jammed - the subsequent overload blew the fuse and couldn't start the RR. A new compressor sorted it!
 
I have brought many many items including compressors and valve blocks from Kurt and never had any problems with his supplies. It is a problem especially with compressors that owners identify that the compressor is worn out and needs replacement without finding why the old compressor failed ie feeding leaks etc. A new compressor is often fitted and a few months later the same problem arises simply because the compressor is over worked and the original fault / leak is not remedied before fitting a new component. And why would the supplier trade or private be responsible for others incompetence :rolleyes:
 
Incompetence? I had an issue before with air leaks etc however I had all the air lines checked and 2 changed I replace all air bags and also bought a new valve block from Kurt. There is no incompetence at all, I just turned the car off left it for half hour and then the compressor just started blowing the fuse?!? What would your suggestion be?? I haven't asked Kurt for anything or blamed him at all I just simply said it seems to have failed. Not after fee handouts!
 
Don't want to add fuel to the fire but is the compressor trying to start against pressure ie. the valve block is not exhausting pressure on switch off. Try taking the compressor off and disconnect the blue pipe, see if it still blows the fuse. If it does, compressor faulty, if it doesn't, valve block problem.:)
