Hey all
I've just bought a scorpion mid s/th s/s exhaust on my defender 90, and me and my dad have got a small back box and welded a flange on that to go to the mid box, doing this Ive made the exhaust rear exit, right next to the tow ball and drop plate, rather than the normal side exit (behind the rear o/s wheel)
The only thing is now when i pull away from a junction or put my foot even close to the floor i get a strong smell of diesel fumes, the rear door is sealed well, so i don't know where else the fumes could possibly be coming in???
Does anyone else have this problem, or know a cure?
Cheers guys :)

Possibly unrelated - check the fuel tank sender and pipes for any leaks/poor seals

Accesss is under drivers seat

Just wondered if you're pulling away 'sharpish' (well, sharpish as in Defender), fuel might be sloshing about and fumes escaping

Cheers, Ill check when i get home on friday, but the thing is its a bit of a coincidence because there was no problem when it was a side exit, and now that ive made it rear exit i smell smoke haha
I did wind the fuel pump up, but ive wound it down again because its going through quite a bit of fuel and its done 163k, so maybe it'll smoke a bit less now :D
and im 18, so im not exaclty a 'slow' driver, so i do pull off quite sharpish :)

OK Dave

Sure you'll get loads of other ideas

Only other thought is if the rear door seal (I'm assuming you've a cab and not a truck) is knackered letting fumes in, which coupled with having turned the fuel pump up might do it.

Don't know if you've ever driven an estate with the rear hatch open bringing something large back from the DIY store? Does tend to suck fumes in.

Yeah i can have a look at the seal too, that would be a nice simple problem to sort out for once :) haha it is a cab ye
And ye, my dad did say that the air coming off the back sucks everything back, to hell with the laws of physics

Use some 2" masking tape to seal the door and see if it makes any difference. If it does then its your door seals. If it dont then you know to look elsewhere.
