What engine oil for a td5 2003?, I used QX 5w30 fully synthetic last time, but have notice I can get QX 5w30 semi synthetic at Euro parts for buy one get one free, is it worth going for?
 
Thought it was a controversial subject :rolleyes:,next question, could you mix fully synthetic oil with semi synthetic, only ask as I have some fully synthetic left from the last oil change? Think I know what the answer will be:D

I use semi synthetic in mine, which has done over 140k.

I'm sure I read / heard somewhere that if it's done over 100k then use semi synthetic ... but I could be wrong

Both oils designed to mix without problem. Depending on ratio you are either upgrading one or downgrading one.
 
I've about 2.5 ltrs of fully synthetic left over from the last oil change and wanted to use it up

I am not big on getting into the details of oil. As long as it meets the spec, I don't really care. I have always used 10w40 semi in my TD5 and the same goes into the 90 so I buy it 20ltr at a time. I don't think I would mix semi and fully though unless as a desperate measure. Just me, but it would be one or the other.
 
Oil has been discussed on a Bi weekly event on LZ.Use manufactures recommended oil. Why would you run thin oil? Just had oil change on mine yesterday, Ford dealer, 15 qts 15w40 and filter, $3,98 a qt. 228k miles
 
As usual thor has no idea what he is talking about,by mixing synth and semi synth it does not make it thinner,as long as it is the same oil weight.Which is what the op asked.

Mineral oils are based on oil that comes from dear old Mother Earth which has been refined. Synthetic oils are mostly concocted by chemists wearing white lab coats in oil company laboratories. The only other type is semi-synthetic, sometimes called premium, which is a blend of the two. It is safe to mix the different types, but it's wiser to switch completely to a new type rather than mixing.

I think that would be good enough for me then. There was a thread somewhere about Universal Tractor Oil being the dogs bollocks due to the fact it was lubricating VERY hard working engines. I would throw that in the 90 no probes and would consider it in the Disco. If it was the correct spec :)
