Anyone know what this small/narrow pipe does it is next to the filler pipe that goes into the tank on a TD5. I assume it is there for a reason but is kinked flat which in theory is stopping it doing what it should do.

I have just been charged £500 for new fuel pump to fix starting problems and they made the problem worse, it wont start when warm either now. Dumbasses!
 
Yeah its a beather, helps let air out when filling, and to an extent air in when its being used.

As said above, straighten it out.
 
Thanks Guys, will try but on looking last night it seems very hard, age on plastic I suspect. Will try to disconnect it as there are reachable clips either side of the kink and use hot water to soften it.

It is a theory why I cant start the car easily and the garage just failed to fix at a cost of £450. If it is causing a vacume in the tank then it would suggest restricted fuel flow to engine.

The garage got it back this morning!!!!!

just had a shufty under my 52 reg td5.
mine is also the same as yours but the plastic is still flexible.
it could be a theory but it is not causing mine any probs..........atleast i am not aware of any.
 
its supposed to be that shape but not with the kink in it.

its the breather to stop fuel being chucked out when filling.
 
Thanks for your help everybody. All the time it doesn't spurt fuel out at me when I am filling I have decided to leave it alone.

Mat above confirmed his also has a kink and I was lucky enough to see another Disco of similar age that I too scrambled under, exactly the same including kink. I put it down to a design fault.

What will happen next, the pipe will become brittle and split at the kink point. Ah well.
 
Ok by way of closure on this thread and after a long 8 months of hassle where Land Rover Switzerland failed, I shipped the car back to the UK into the hands of LR UK and hey presto, just got the following email;

Just had phone call from Hunters. Found oil in main injector loom & main harness, they've fitted new turbo hoses, looms & laminations. All 100% paid for by Land Rover & we have to collect tomorrow morning. She couldn't call you as she can't dial your number from her phone - uk only I suppose. So that's good news. By the way we asked the salesman ref price & he looked up trade price as being about £9995 so with luck you'll get more than £7,500.

Anyone want to buy a nice Land Rover? I got so ****ed off with it I bought a new one.
 
It looks like the fuel tank breather pipe. There should not be any kink it so you need to take it out. (The kink that is).
