Morning folks, I have an 05 plate Range Rover Vogue with a suspect fuel starvation.

Drove it home the other night, parked it up as normal, returned this morning, turned over but wouldnt fire.

It has just been serviced before xmass.

Thus far, I have checked all the fuses and relys, Ive removed the injector pipe - dry as a whistle when turning over!

I have checked the pump, unsure if it is pumping, no vibration - noise etc?

I thought possibly an Inertia switch however, I am unsure if this has one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The fuel pumps seem to be common failures

Or could be an immobiliser issue

Check power at the pump when turning over the engine

Have you got access to any diagnostics software ?

Hey there,

I have limited access to diagnositcs - basic OBD/OBDII - checkes yesterday, nothing flagged up.

Is it worthwhile directly feeding the engine with fuel - whereby confirming no immobiliser issue as in theory, it should fire over for a short time hence giving confirmation?

Thanks for your help!

 <---- me!

Petrol or diesel? Either way as the fuel is electronically injected from a high pressure fuel rail, I don't see how you could directly feed the engine with fuel.

Its Diesel. Surely by feeding the engine just a splash of fuel, it will be enough to fire up for just a second, whereby confirming it goes back to the pump etc?

Where are you going to put your splash of fuel? If it goes in as liquid it could hydraulic lock and bust a piston. A direct injection diesel requires the fuel to be sprayed in under very high pressure. You could try Easy Start but it will prove absolutely nothing as any diesel that turns over will fire on the stuff even if the immobiliser is active, fuel pump is dead etc. Most likely it's the fuel pump, Look at Saint V8's thread on replacing the pump.

Thanks for the advice.

I was intenting on putting a spash into the injector however, that plan is out the window now :)

Ive checked with my motor factors this morning, there are two pumps, one cylinder type on the outside and one in the tank.

Can have the one outside for £67.50 and the one inside for around £250 ...

what one would you say is more likley to have given up ? hopefully the one on the outside! haha

Thanks again

Unless you have money to burn the only way is to check if they are pumping.

One thing to mention,

Prior to the motor not starting, when accelerating in rapid formation, it was as though it wasnt getting enough fuel to keep it going ?

Say you where in 3rd gear doing 2.5k revs and then depressing the accelerator fully, the revs would go to 4k as normal and then instead of changing gear, it was as though something was holding it back, the motor wanted to change but it physicaly didnt have the fuel.

When you released the accelerator to say 2.5k revs, and switched up a gear, it was fine, hit 3.5k revs and the problem comes back ...

Possible that the pump couldnt work any faster than it was already doing?

Could be the pump failing to deliver enough fuel.
