we have just bought a series 2a 88" 2.25 petrol and replaced the fuel pump with a brand new one because the old one had broken. But the fuel will only pump through manually by use of the lever on the bottom but will not pump mechanically from the cams in the engine. Do I have a serious problem here or have I just bought a duff fuel pump?

Oh Dear ...... we had this with a replacement pump on a NA diesel 15J engine.

There are TWO types of pump, and the wrong one won't reach the eccentric on the cam. There was an adapter thing involved but I don't remember what sorted it eventually. It's a bummer because there seems no reason to have gone to a second type of pump.

I think the experts out there will help you further.

ah, there might be an adaptor thing still fitted because the broken pump was a cheap crappy aftermarket thing with no glass sediment bowl and now we have just fitted a new one which is the original fuel pump, the adaptor might be stopping the thingy that the cam drives from reaching the cam.
