My fuel pump died a few days ago, or so i thought. I was getting underneath to have a look today, but when i connected the pump socket to a battery i can hear it working. but when its connected to the loom and i crank it, nothing.
Where do i start?
V8 defender on SU's, pump in tank.

Hi,
When you say nothing when you are cranking it, do you mean you have no power to it at that moment ?
Because during cranking, it maybe the fuel pump is turned off. If it works with the ignition in the running mode then I would imagine this is correct.
If there is no power going to it at all, I would check the fueses first. If they are ok, check the supply line. It will be ignition live so a supply will come from there.

That was my next question, is the circuit fused? I think the fuel pump must work when its cranking. otherwise how could you start the engine?

With the fuel in the carbs.
To answer your other question, yes I would imagine it is fused and it possibly a relay.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the fuel pump relay, fuse? and is there a safety cut out that can be reset?

AFU2913L is the part number for the relay. There are two the same near the ecu - one for the pump, one for the ecu. Fuse should be in same place. Range rover (?) had an impact sensor jobby I think but don't quote me on it.
