Recently had issues with starting and found I needed a new fuel pump. Dropped the tank and changed the pump... the old one was badly corroded where the metal pipes came out of the top of the pump.

Pump seems to be working fine ... however ... when parked up, I find the vehicle difficult to start. This appears to be because fuel is going out of the system in front of the fuel filter. If left for 8 hours, the pipe between the filter and engine block can be completely empty. This then fills when starting but takes around 2 minutes. I do not understand how this can happen .... any ideas please

Other than the bit of metal pipe coming out of the pump (which is new) all the other pipes are in good condition and are actually plastic. There are no leaks which suggests they are not passing any air.

Wills,

the short answer is no ... can you explain what these are please and I will go and pop the bonnet!

Cheers

they are the little pipes which run between each injector and one that runs from the FIP to the 1st injector.

They have a tendency to crack and let in air making start difficult. Yuo can replace them with genuine ones which are pre cut to length or just get some appropriately sized fuel pipe and replace by cutting them to length.

A little pool of diesel round the base of the injector is an indicator that these are leaking.

They carry the excess fuel back to the tank that isnt injected. They become porous and let air into the system. Easy to change cheap to buy.

Thanks for this advice ... need to take a few things off to take a good look and I will probably just change them for completeness.

Just looking now, there are air bubbles coming up the fuel pipe from the block so there is clearly air getting into the sytem somewhere beyond that.

I will check the pipes and change and then come back if this does not solve the issue. Thanks for your help
