Recently bought a P38 2.5 diesel.
When fuel is at full tank going down to a quarter all ok.When gauge hits a quarter problems. Takes a good 30 seconds to turn engine over and when driving limited power.Person who I bought it from says fuel pump not fully submerged so only drawing air in.
He has agreed to fix the problem bought I thought I would get a second opinion from the people who know on here.
Thanks

Either the pipe inside the tank between the pump and the outlet has come adfrift or the pump itself is not working. The main fuel pump on the engine will suck enough through when the tank is above a quarter. Below this it struggles.

Probably find the pump body is cracked. This is a well documented problem. A new one will sort it out.

Is he going to replace it by taking tank off or cutting hole in floor? If the latter make sure it`s not a nasty bodge. It is a time saving option , but the former owner may not be best interested in doing a good job ! (if he`s your best mate, just put it down to my cynicism!)

yes as already said,it is a well known problem in that the in tank pump gets a crack in the body of the pump, when the fuel is below a quarter of a tank it just draws air in and not fuel, this then causes the problem you are asking about.remedy is a new pump.:)
