hi done a quick search but no luck,my 300tdi l reg started running a bit rough this morning, its been low on fuel for a few days with fuel light on.
it feels as its juddering etc about 30 mph as tho a plug is down if it was a petrol lol, filled up with diesel but made no differance?
should diesel come out of air screw on top of fuel filter when engine running?cos mine dont.
could it be sediment in filter or air lock?

if fuel were coming out of the bleed screw it wouldnt run,you said you ran it low on fuel for a few days, the chances are condensation in the tank as now developed and gone into the filter, every body assumes that as you have a sedament drain plug on the filter and you drain it out it cleans the filter, it doesnt, try changing the filter,

Suspect number one - LIFT PUMP.

Make sure it's skooshing fuel grand style.

Suspect number two - crâp in the fuel sedimenter. Take off, clean out and put back on - bet she goes better now!! Assuming there's some diesel in the tank :p;)

and the last bloke more than likely didnt either, when you change the filter fill it with clean diesel first saves air getting in the system and if you can remove the feed pipe to the filter and blow back into the tank to get rid of sh 1t in the pipe,

the crap is most likely in the filter now by blowing the pipe out back to the tank the crap thats in the pipe wont go into the new filter, if your fuel tank is that low on fuel use the opportunity to drain the tank aswell, save your self a job later on when you decide to run on fumes again lol

Last time I tried to open my sedimenter the large(ish) drain plug on the bottom disintegrated ... and IIRC the o-ring/seal will also break up.

nothing stopping you from fitting a fuel filter with out the sediment bowl u can gett filters with a little plastic tap on them

so clean sedimenter out will i need any new parts? change fuel filter etc

Re the sedimenter, you will need to rubber seals.

If you want this vehicle to deliver optimum performance you would be well advised to change all the oils and filters.

www.paddockspares.com do a kit of the three filters, oil, air and fuel for a total kit price of £6.28+vat.

Change the engine oil (7ltrs) for good quality 10w-40 semi-synth or better, the gearbox oil (3ltrs) is MTF94, the transfer box (2.5ltrs) front and back axles (1.7ltrs each) all need EP 75 or 80-90 oil.

Keeping on top of the oily bits will help greatly in avoiding breakdowns so it's important to do it quickly and regularly. I do it every 5000mls.

Change all the filters irrespective of what the LR schedule says - your car will thank you for it.

Good luck and enjoy your new toy/hobby - well it's not just a car is it?;):D:rolleyes::welcome2:
