Evening all - just thought I would try a quick post, to see if anyone on the forum can suggest a solution....

I need to replace the fuel pipes on my Classic. But apparently they are too long to have sent by post/courier etc. Has anyone else battled with this crazy issue, and how do you get around it? The pipe I need is near Basingstoke, and I live near Dundee - any forum members travelling up and down who could help?

Well, a quick update on the fuel lines - looks like the only solution is to cut the fuel lines in half, and ship them with some fittings I can use to put them back together.

I suppose they might be easier to fit in two pieces, as they're about 9 feet long! Also, the return pipe was going to have to be cut anyway, as it's a 100 inch version, and I need it for my RR Classic LSE! It seems the 108" fuel lines have all gone.....

I was also told that Ford are dumping Land-Rover parts in landfill.

I dont know what company you are using, but I have had pipes delivered by paddocks in the past and they were inside a tube and wrapped in foam.

I would not advise cutting them as that defeats the whole object of getting genuine parts in the first place.

You have several alternatives.

1. Get a local supplier to make you some pipes up, using your old ones as a template.
2. Make some yourself, very simple.
3. Use Aeroquipe hose or similar.
4. Use anther supplier to deliver them.

In relation to Ford dumping Land Rover parts, this is well known, the reason that they do this is that they do not want any comeback from sombody fitting parts that have not been issued via the normal routes.

You would think that at the least they would offer the parts to independant suppliers.

I did work through the various possibilities, and certainly considered making my own. However, they're not simple items, having several flexible hoses in their construction, and the real thing seemed vastly preferable to a home-made version.

I enquired at Pirtek - they confirmed that they could make them up, but I think the cost would end up being at least 2 or 3 times as much. I have had them make up other parts - for example auto transmission hose. They do an excellent job, but not rather expensive.

No one seems to be listing them - Paddocks included - until I checked out Britcar, who did list them. Complete set should have been about £150, which I think is good value - then we ran into issues with shipping them - not only from Britcar to me, but even from Land-Rover dealers to Britcar.

Anyway, I should receive them sometime next week, and I'll post an update once I've fitted them. They are being replaced as part of a much larger job - the rear floor is out, rear crossmember being replaced (sourced from Paddock, by the way) thorough clean-up of chassis etc.

Looking forward to an MoT and being able to drive the beast again.
