First td5

Member
Hi all so just got my first td5 disco a few days ago and now after filling it up with half a tank I seem to have a diesel leak looks likes it's come from passengers side of the fuel tank any ideas what it is and how much it will cost to fix?

That would obviously depend on exactly what's gone awry. The filler pipe and the tank breather are all on the driver's side of the vehicle, so the next thing to check is whether it's a case of the leaking fuel creeping to the passenger's side of the tank or whether it's actually a problem on that side.
There is, or should be an access panel to the top of the fuel tank and pump assembly in the rear floor, under the carpet. Getting at it can be a bit of a trial since you have to lift the carpet, or you could cut a big flap in the carpet with a knife to get at the panel.
Whatever you decide to do, ultimately you're going to have to get under the vehicle, or get somebody else to have a good look around to see what's going on.

Thanks for the reply as soon as I seen the leak I went to alocal garage and he says he would take aloof but would b 2 hours labour straight away just to get to fine the problem would it really take this long I was going to take carpet up.and look all underneath properly today but there's a few inch of snow on the ground so it's going to have to wait just hoping it is just a pipe or something like that and not the tank or am I better taking it to the garage n let them do it I if I could fine it and it was say the green pipe from pump to filter would I have to drop the tank to remove and replace the pipe or is there an easier way?

It might be possible to 'feel' the pipes from underneath with a piece of kitchen roll to see where it gets wet ...

Usually easier to take the carpet up or cut a flap in the carpet, (cover later with a rubber mat), the sealing rings sometimes leaks and diesel can wick along the mud on the pipe or more likely the pipe unions are in need of replacing ...

Also on the off-side in front of the rear axle is a thing called a sedimentor, it's a catch-all filter shaped thingy to trap water and debris, these can leak too ...

Don't open the plastic tap at the bottom of it , it'll snap off... un do the small bolt at the top and drop the canister, usually down your sleeve ...

Thanks for the info it's definitely not that I have looked and nothing near there its just coming from passengers side about the middle of the tank and looks like it's coming from above

1, there is no sedimenter on a TD5, only the fuel filter, which is on the drivers side. If the leak is on the passenger side, the best advice is a good clean and then see where it appears from. There is nothing on a TD5 on the passenger side of the tank, so it is travelling maybe from the leaky ring/rubber doughnut/seal on the top of the tank, or from the notorious green pipe as suggested, that rubs, on the drivers side normally though, and is making its way across.
