Hello all, i got a severe diesel leak on my P38 fuel injection pump, i know where it's coming from but don't know if it's ok to remove the part to change the gasket. As you look over the passenger wing and look towards the bottom of the fuel pump, there is a small domed housing held with two torx headed bolts virtually on the bottom of the visible side of the pump,directly beneath where the main pump loom bolts to the side, is it safe to remove this housing to change the gasket or will things fall out if i do? it's leaking like buggery and costing a fortune in fuel!!!

Chris apparently (I know sweet FA about pumps) but the tolerances of the things are crazy like the timing has to be something silly like 0.1 + - on them, so they have to be sorted out properly, look in to it seriously before you even think about touching it m8

Thanks for the warning, i just looked on rave and apparently it's a cover for the timing plunger, part 6 on the injection pump schematic, there doesnt seem to be anything behind it that can fall out but i'll wait and see if anyone knows any different, i wont be touching anything involving timing or stripping of the pump, it's just this bloody cover on the side LOL

yes they are tight already, just done some trolling aroung google, there is a spring and 2 washers behind the cover, the spring isnt under much tension so should be ok to remove cover and change gasket, i think?

as long as your not kinda tinkering with anything, I cant see the harm in it... but like I say, I know nothing about pumps, but if its like you say, me?? I would give it a try, but then you know the price of these things when they go tits up dont you, then you'll have to pay for fitting and timing the ting as well lots of £££££ (scaring myself now!!!)

I have developed this exact leak and have removed and resealed this spring loaded plate but to no avail.. found this thread then but it's incomplete.. Bummer.. Please please post your solution

removed housing and there is a rubber o ring at the back of it, which had flattened off so not sealing correctly, fitted new o ring, cost me 5pence and re bolted housing up, hey presto no more leaks!!
