I have a 1997 RR 2.5 DSE. After a recent diagnostic check we were told it needs a new fuel injection pump. I have the chance of a second hand one in good condition for a 96/97 RR diesel. What I want to know is to the numbers on both pumps have to be the same? About half of them are. Would be grateful for any help.

Can you not ask the guy's who did the diagnostics for you. Also be sure with the diagnosis because i had mine plugged into t4 at a local garage, l/r specialist and it said low fuel pressure so the pump was changed, no differnce £350 thankyou very much, and i've got a spare petrol pump.

Diagnostic check was done at local landrover dealers. They said it was either a mechanical or electrical fault. That's all they said, and to repair it £1800 for new pump & labour. Just because we have a Range Rover they seem to think it's ok to rip you off.
Have since managed to get a pump from salvage £200 in very good working order.
Sorry but I don't think a petrol pump would be any got for a diesel engine;) Thanks for the help any way:)

P.S found out numbers didn't need to match. All the vpa diesel pumps are the same

Sorry, wasn't suggesting you to have my pump, just my humour. The Diagnostics kit is the same then i would think as the guy's i use said when they speak to lr technical support they ask if they've got t4 otherwise they dont seem too keen to help. £1800! i can not believe the prices they charge and, interestingly if i had taken my car to lr dealers i would have had to pay that and be no further foward. I have fixed the fault and it cost £30. Hope your pump works out.

turn key. wait for heatcoil light to go out then try to start.after second attempt she fires.when hot she wont start so av to keep turning her over till she fires.wonderd why the last owner got a new battrey
 
Does your heater plug come in when it's warm? Our's doesn't and it was a nightmare to start when it was warm. This is what I do, as turning the engine over when warm, give it full throttle whilst engine is turning, lift foot off and put half throttle on and it'll start. Well ours does. Whether that would work for you I don't know. We also had another option which made the heater plugs came in all the time. Only draw back she swined fuel. This is what my son posted up on another forum.


First post so bare with me on this, have got a range rover 2.5 DSE (BMW engine) Starts ok when cold, no problem at all. But when hot as you know the glow plugs don't come on and turns over for what seems like an eternity before it will start. Any ideas?

It could be the engine coolant temp sensor which is defective. Located on the side near rear part of the cylinder head driver side. Try pulling out the connector and start your engine. If it does then thats the culprit. But from my experience your aircon will not work when the connector is disconnected. The person who answered this owned a left hand drive. So the sensor is on our passenger side.

Hope thats of some help.
Have you had a diagnostic check? We did and it revealed we needed new pump. Hence bad starting. Wonder if your's is the same? :) :)
 
our heater plugs do not come on when warm
when hot and about to start i do the same as you with the throttle
we are in the process of having a diagnostic check on the vehicle i do know that the pumps are in excess of £1000 gutted
 
Tell me about it. Local dealer was gonna charge us £1800 for new injection pump and that was with labour and VAT. :mad: Today I have just managed to find a second hand one for £200. That's for a salvaged one that's in good condition. :) Some difference in price isn't it?

We've only had our RR 4mths
 
hello folks , the hot start problem with the diesels seems to be a common problem and somewhere on here i`ve seen a fix for it not sure where though ?
 
We used to have a BMW 525TD and it was never a problem to start. Kind of thought that with RR having BMW engine it would be same. I know not the same thing, but you know where I'm coming from?:confused:
 
Cheers for that I'll show the brains of the family. ;) My lad's an engineer so he'll know what to do, it's abit beyond me!! :eek: Plus he'll be quicker.
