with the ignition on it moves up a little

there shouldn't be power to the guage all the time but it reads correctly (well as correctly as a Freelander guage gets)
 
I would assume the power is removed from the fool pump and fool level switch when the electrics are off. From rave:

The low fuel pressure sensor is screwed into a port in the side of the filter head unit and is connected by three wires to ECM connector C0604, pins 9, 10 and 17. Pin 9 supplies a 5V supply to the sensor, pin 10 supplies an earth and pin 17 supplies a variable signal back to the ECM which corresponds to the fuel pressure.

The sensor measures the pressure on the output side of the filter and therefore can detect a blockage within the filter or failure of the LP fuel supply. The ECM will monitor the LP sensor and, in the event of very low pressure, will stop the engine to prevent damage to the HP injector pump. Refer to HP Fuel Injection Pump description in this section for further details.
 
I'll have a look at the electrics tomorrow to see if there's any way they could have failed to cause this. Falling asleep a bit at the moment.

I filled right up with petrol and then my fuel pump failed, got recovered home on a tow truck - by the time I got it home the gauge dropped to just over 3/4 tank even though it was full to the brim and had not been fired up...(checked for leaks but nothing found).

As soon as the fuel pump was replaced and the engine was running hey presto the gauge went back up to the top !! all on level ground by the way.
 
petrol freelanders gauges do stay up for a while I guess it would be a capcitor somewhere and then it runs down until the next time as capacitors in some casses are used as Batteries like in alarms boxes the diesle freelander do not do this but I guess it may be a different wiring system

:) not thought of that.

it would have to hold quite a charge though as it never goes back down, well only as i use the fuel.

it's a headscratcher for sure....like i said it's not causing any problems, i just can't understand why it's doing what it does :confused:
 
On my V plate TD the needle stays where it last indicated when ignition is turned off, on my 55 plate TD4 the needle drops to zero when switched off.
 
ere Freelander, does yer fool low lamp come on regardless of the fool level needle misbehaving?

the fool guage does work, it's just don't return to zero upon switch orf!

all the other guages switches etc.... work fine

EDIT: apart from the sunroof switch cos i've pulled the foose :rolleyes:;)
