Last Wednesdy eve I filled the fuel tank to the brim and the next day a warning flashed up on the dash, "Fuel Gauge Error."
The gauge then dropped to zero, the yellow warning light came on then it went back to full again.
A week later it's still showing full.

How easy is it to check the sender unit?

I have just dropped the tank on my 4.6 litre P38 to change the sender unit.
Its not difficult, couple of hours, if your dropping it you would be as well to replace the sender

If I have to drop the tank I'll definitely cut an access hole/panel in case of future problems.

Fair enough, except that dropping the tank isn't really that big a deal and if you fix things properly while you are there, you won't need the hole in your floor....

Why you would want to cut holes in the bodywork is beyond me when its such an easy job to drop the tank

......and while the tank is off, replace the brake lines that pass over the top thereof!

I done gone bought me a one of these flaring tool thingies:-
Best investment ever - a bit of practice and bingo, new lines all round.

Thanks for the replies.
Seems there isn't a fault....I filled her up again thinking that it might free the float if it was stuck....turns out that it's hardly using any petrol as it only took £3 to fil to the brim again.

Drove it on petrol only for a day and the guage has moved.

So, on LPG it's using just £3 a week on petrol to get going, well happy.
