One for @sierrafery if you could please mate!

Ive just picked up a commercial 300tdi disco and the seller advised me the gauge had got lazy and was just reading empty (with light illuminated) clocks were all cracked up on the plastic so changed with a good spare.
So far I have:
Checked the resistance on the sender - it hovers around 60.
Changed the clocks as per above.
Cleaned a connection up in rear wheel arch.

I haven’t pulled sender yet as I need to go out and can’t smell of diesel 😂. My understanding was if she’s got resistance on sender then that should be ok.
Any tips for next moves appreciated. Don’t want to take her out without knowing fuel levels 👍🏻

Oh and this may help.

Hi, no need to take out the sender cos 60 ohms should send the gauge to about a quarter... you have to check continuity of the GB wire from that plug to the instrument pack C221 pin 3... if you get the same 60 ohm there the problem iswith the gauge... if it's interrupted the easyest would be to run a new wire instead... in the electrial troubleshooting manual there are connector views, that wire is trough C407 -2, C277 - 13 and C215 - 6 if you want to see in which section is interrupted

Thank you very much 👍🏻
I’m going to sound very daft now. How on earth do I check continuity from one end to the other without elastic arms? I’m assuming feed a bit of spare wire into the GB at plug end then stick that on one probe and the other on the GB hole at clock end?

Got the manual via one of your last postings mate - thank you. I don’t remember seeing Birds Eye view of the connectors in it but obviously have all the black and whites. It’s very handy as you can just do a pdf search for “c217” say, then you can see diagram and location picture by just scrolling search results.
I also have another very strange one in that the right hand side window opens when I start it 😂

Exactly... or one probe to ground the other to the GB wire at the sender with C221 unplugged , should be open circuit then connect C221-3 to ground with a piece of wire and it should be closed to ground at the sender's end as well if the circuit is not interrupted

Just did this and no continuity so clearly a break somewhere. I’ll try and isolate said break tomorrow. Thanks for help

Sorted mate, did as advised and isolated a section at a time. Connection at the block behind glove box was dodgy. Came apart with very little effort. Has clearly got damp too from the same holes at the bottom of windscreen that every disco does!!
Cleaned it up and now reading 1/2 tank 👍🏻 thanks for coming back to me. Learnt a decent lesson on using the troubleshooting guide 👍🏻
