Hi all,
I've recently had to remove my fuel pump on my Defender TD5, for an issue unrelated to the pump. Since re-fitting the pump, the gauge reads lower than it used to, when I filled it up before, the gauge would show just over the full line, now it shows about 3/4 full. Other than the level reading differently, it otherwise functions perfectly. I'm guessing I bent the arm with the float on when I removed it. If this is the case, I would guess it happened as I pulled the pump out, which would suggest I bent the arm downwards towards the bottom of the tank.........this is where my mind's getting confussed (probably about something very simple), and I'm hoping someone can help. If the arm bent downwards, wouldn't it make the tank read 'fuller' ???
In summary, do I increase or decrease the angle of the arm which I've highlighted in red on the attached picture to make the level read 'fuller' ??

It's hard to bend the arm accidentally as they're made out of very stiff wire in my experience and you've really got to put some effort in to bend them. If it's arm bending that has taken place, it sounds like the float has bent upwards compared to where it was before, so at a high level it hasn't gone quite so far round the quadrant near its base, so the gauge doesn't read as high. This may be an advantage because it means you still have a little reserve when it's on empty.

So if you want it back where it was, bend it downwards.
