Changed the fuel filter on my 1996 Defender 300tdi today. All went well, filled the new filter with diesel and smeared oil onto the rubber seal, and engine runs fine.

However, when loosening the bleed nut and priming the fuel through with the lift lever, I didn't get any diesel coming out of the bleed nut. Any reason why not?

I don't think the fuel filter needs to be primed on a 300tdi.It's self priming.
I certainly dont prime mine, except for filling it with fuel before fitting.
Marc.

The lever needs to be on the bottom the cam before it will pump fuel probably why you never got any fuel through.
Turn the engine from the crank pully or jag the key to turn the engine then try again.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind next time.
