Going to service the disco in the next couple of days. As i've only just got it, and I am only familiar with the tdi, I just wanted to know how to change the fuel filter  I bought it with a starting problem as it would only bump, solenoid just clicked. Took the starter off and tested it to see if it had died, but it eventually turned out just to be the earth. Anyway, I know you have to bleed the system and all on the tdi, someone please explain how to do it on the v8. I heard it's simpler than the tdi

Thanks.

Jack up and remove the wheel unless u have a ramp, and release the fuel pipe glands each end of the filter, then slacken the filter clamp and slide the filter out. refit the new filter in reverse to above and no need to bleed anything :)

Ok great thanks. I'll also ask something else, I'm not really bothered about the interior given it's going to go eventually (comp truck) - but the panels that cover the immense amount of electronics in both the passenger and driver footwell are not exactly.... intact. They need replacing with other ones or another method of protecting them? Don't went either me or passenger to break something down there. Any ideas as to how to protect them?

cheers.

As they are not only shaped but also designed to clear any wiring, earth connections and relays it would be difficult to make a replicar, so just replace like for like I would think, they are easily detachable just two buttons to pull out if required.

filter is osr wheel arch, you will need spanners and be aware that pipe fitting will sometimes seize to pipe- you don't want to snap rigid pipe or excessively twist flexible fuel hose.

Just was out there and that's what's happened. It's seized and I don't want to twist and ruin the pipe. Any ideas please?

Thanks.

I had the same problem with my 95 3.9 V8i. There was no way that the unions would come undone either side of the filter without damaging the pipes either side.
When I replaced the boot floor, I took the opportunity to replace the pipe from the tank to the filter and use some couplings from Merlin Motorsport at Castle Combe to replumb the standard filter connections so that I am not reliant on metal to aluminium coming apart. The next filter change will be much simpler.

 ok thanks for the info everyone. done the rest of the service and the engine seems to run quite a bit more smoothly. The vehicle was sat for a year before I got it. The oil was quite dark. So yes the engine runs fine but the fuel filter looks like it's been there quite a bit longer than say the oil filter I took off today. With it's condition I can't see it helping much. Given it's gonna be a comp truck, I want it running as best as possible and to of course prolong the engines' life as much as possible. I know the 3.9s don't last forever. I'll give it a better go tomorrow perhaps. If not, i'll get it to my local workshop and let someone else sort it :D
