I'm interested in finding out what a Disco 2 diesel does to the gallon, my petrol V8 runs on gas and is cheaper to run than the defender 200tdi

They average out at about 28-30 to a gallon, but if you're that worried about fuel consumption you should buy a Discovery, they're more than two tons and have all the aerodynamics of a housebrick.

24 out of my auto on a recent trip up north. My 300tdi manual would do about 30, both with the same 245/75/16 MT51 tyres. My td5 does have a Rimmer Bros tuning box on it and I’m now keeping up with traffic and happily cruising at 70 vs trying to maintain 70 in the 300tdi, maybe at the same speeds it would be similar. As said though not the car to buy if that worries you, mine is a toy so it’s not really an issue.

V8 doing 33mpg not a chance lol
Depends on the V8, the saloon V8 car I sold just under 3 years ago regularly did 38 to 42 mpg on a light throttle so it can be done but that was a modern car with a modern engine, but then on a heavy throttle the dash display would show 8 mpg but I was happily as I was accelerating up to 170 mph, leaving my brother in his V8 XF behind, but then disappointed as road test said it tops out at 177 mph, I was done. :(

Equivalent is the operative word, and that would be petrol v lpg in cost as Adam D1 states above.

I did clearly miss the lpg but its been a long hard week & we don't have lpg/gas we still burn coal here lol
everyone I know with a v8 pays through the nose for having one hence why I don't have a v8 beasty !!

My disco doesn’t have lpg but then all my cars that I’ve owned from the black & white days have had a petrol engine , I’ve never had an issue with the cost in running any vehicle whether an a 850cc fitted to a mini or 4.2 V8, all down to ones disposable income I suppose.

I also don't watch the mpg I have a couple of performance cars once they are empty I just fill them up
my evo is shocking on fuel but I always have a 5 gallon smile :D

I work out the pence per mile on gas and it's about 16p a mile, costs about 30 quid to fill up and I get around 200 miles for that, the worst I've had is 29 mpg equivalent but that was towing twin axle trailer and some 80mph plus motorway trips.
As long as I can get the gas at around .55p a litre I'm happy because the defender 200tdi was doing 26 to 28, so I can have a V8 for similar running costs :):):)

25MPG on my TD5 disco, less if I'm thraping or towing. Not bad considering I only get 33ish from my 2 litre petrol Beemer.

I’ve got a TD5 auto, EGR feed blocked, decat. I’m averaging about 22 MPG but on a mainly motorway journey of about 130 miles I got 27.2 MPG.

If you can buy LPG at a good price, then it will likely always match or equal diesel in terms of pence per mile. Of course if you have the cost of the LPG conversion to consider in the running costs, then it may take some serious mileage before this gain is actually noticed.

Previous owner paid for mine so I'm on a winner, just filled up again with gas and got 33mpg equivalent :):)
