Is there any tips to try and better the fuel consumption on a disco td5 manual 2004 model. no bio fuel or vegatable oil just a thought cause there greedy mongrels

I think they are quite good on diesel, given their weight. I normally get around 30mpg with local running.

You might get slightly better consumption if you use one of the "premium" diesels with higher cetane rating. Mine's an Auto, normally does about 25 mpg on normal derv, but that goes up to 35 on a run if I keep it at 60 on the cruise control. For some reason it's better abroad as well - presumably constant speeds on the Autobahn. So try driving it abroad more???

My TD5 manual is pretty amazing on fuel now.
When I first got it at 18k miles it was doing about 26/27 mpg steady
I blanked off the EGR.
IMMEDIATELY, the car ran better, and the mpg went up to 31/32.

On long runs using cruise control and steady speeds about 56 - 60 mph, it can easily hit FORTY miles per gallon.

Over all, including a little off-road and rough stuff, and some heavy trailer work, it is still averaging well over 30 mpg.

As far as fuel consumption goes I'm pleased with the TD5.

you know more than me Ed. Thanks for the reply.

You neither want nor need to know more than one thing about EGR, and that one thing is GET RID OF IT.

It serves NO purpose useful to anyone, and wastes 10% to 20% of the fuel you buy.

Bottom line is fitting a simple £5 blanking plate.
