Hi guys- I was wondering what is the best and average fuel consumption ever recorded by anyone on the Range Rover Classic forum? Shall we stick to litre per 100 km as reference? Or mpg?
Time to show off...or! to start developing an electric motor? as a retrofit...?
 
What on earth is a litre per km? Bluddy foreigners.
Anyway, I used to get a solid 22mpg driving London to Derby when I locked the torque converter up and sat behind lorries at 56mph and that was on MT'S too.
 
Back in the early 'noughties my '93 Vouge auto did 21 mpg on a run from Essex to Shropshire.
I can't remember the figures for local journeys.
nb: My current '87 3.5efi auto will do a couple of mpg more & average 16 - 17 on local commutes.
Both cars totally factory spec. on 205 AT's.

Dear All...any more fuel consumption statistics on a 3.9 efi? I am doing an excel spreadsheet and intent to share it on this thread. Yes I'll convert it to mpg AND l/100 km.
 
Is that it? 22 mpg...or 10.7 litres/ 100 km. I wish to record those kind of figures! Congrats goonarmy! You are the winner, pity you guys have some fuel shortages over there? Or distribution hick- ups, otherwise we could have sponsored you for a quarter tank of fuel as winner...that equates to a full tank worth of ZAR's due to our weak currency! Best to all from SA.
 
No point recording the fuel consuption/price unless you are recording it for the tax man ;)

But nah even diesel Range Rovers aren't that economical so looking at MPG is frankly irrelevant most of the time.
 
Whilst I agree in general that if it is not recorded for the taxman, why bother? - I still do it meticulously since 1977 - reason being that any deviation from the norm is an early sign that something might be wrong, excluding and providing for towing etc. I like the "smiles for miles" expression though!
 
Agreed, any time I consider moving the old girl on I make a point of giving it a run. It's done less than 1K miles over the past year, so with the cost-of-living rising all the time justifying the cars' ownership cost is becoming more difficult, but the :):):) per mile are still as strong as ever.
 
My '93 K Plate Vogue on LPG would return a solid 13.5mpg all day everyday no matter what you did with it....cruise, tow, mud plugging....always 13.5mpg without fail....it was great as you always knew when you would run out of gas....it was always at the same mileage...

I record every tankful against the trip mileage, used to have to do for the tax man, never got out of the habit. More than once a sudden increase in fuel consumption has been a warning of a problem so I will continue to be a nerd.
 
With my last 3.5 Classic it was £100 every two days the engine was in top condition and tuned/serviced regularly in my own garage.i just had a very heavy right foot inside a divers boot.:eek: then I saw the light and bought a 2.5VM Classic:D:D
