Recently bought 1994 90 300 tdi, Filled the tank to the brim, covered 372 miles then re filled to the brim. Took 44.99 litres to fill. Does anyone know how to workout mpg??

44.99 litres divided by 4.55 = Gallons

divide 372 miles by the gallons to get your answer...

37.65 miles per gallon.

an even quicker but not as accurate way is that your tank is roughly 10 gallons so say you get 280 miles to a tank, thats 28MPG.

37 is pretty massive! are you sure your numbers are correct? speedo reading correctly?

Just put mileage calculator in goggle, that'll sort the job out.:cool: Or there are a few free apps that will work it out for you anorl, Simples ;););)

Yeh, I reset the trip, then fuelled to the brim, 372miles 44.99lt of Shell diesel. Not sure what to expect mpg wise. If 37mpg more economical than I expected. It is on road tyres though :frown: but not for much longer :)

I have seen nearly the same on my 200tdi. I see 32mpg and on a long steady run have seen 36mpg.

I have a modified pump and turbo and an Allard full size intercooler and the front box removed. Alegedly all contribute to better perfroamance and economy.

I am running military 7.5x16 tyres.

speedo is bang on with Sat Nav across the range. Ive filled it with vmax this time to see if it makes much difference, seems to run smoother. Tried lots of different fuels with my ST220. BP ultimate gave more mpg than vmax but engine was a lot sweeter on vmax.

Many use US gallons though which are around 3.78 litres compared to imperial gallons which are 4.546 litres.

37mpg is almost unbelievable IMO. Maybe not impossible, but if you weren't driving like Miss Daisy and keeping your speed down. Then there's something definitely wrong. Probably the odometer.

Don't think mine would ever see anything near that even if i was driving miss daisy lol, are defenders not roughly around mid 20's in general?
I do have an auto box as well so that wont help mpg :(

On a decent run I get about 32ish, and on short runs here and there about 27ish, thats a 300 Tdi 110.;););)

Thinking about it OP. Are you sure it wasn't 327 miles or even 272 miles? Either of those would seem more likely.

Having driven a good few of the breed thats my experience mid 20's for short trips/towing etc to 32mpg for a nice gentle run - 110 's.

90's are better and both the above are IMV pretty good for what you are pushing around.

My only Landrover will when the MT's need changing get fitted with road tyres maybe even 7.50 16's.

I reckon there is some fuel saving that can be done with road tyres instead of the aggressive rubber fitted at the mo.
