Hi - just wondering if anyone can diagnose a fault I have with my '92 Disco 2.5 diesel....

Over the last couple of weeks my Disco's been very difficult to start; I often have to pump the accelerator pedal for 5 minutes before it even turns over, then more pumping before it starts. Also, on three occasions it's just stopped during a journey, then I have to repeat the above to get it to start up again.

I initially thought it might be the fuel filter, but having replaced it there's no difference. It's driving me a little insane...... :(

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Rich

What do you thnk pumping the accelerator does on a diesel?
If it's fly by wire throttle could be the sender dodgy, really needs to go on diagnostics.
As above, I would suspect the fuel pump.

Diagnostics? You mean opening the bonnet and having a look. It's a 92 disco the most complicated part of it's electrical system is the radio.

when you say turn over??? please explain, to me not turning over would be no starter, no nothing.
I'd look at leak off pipes, and the lift pump pumping the pedal wont do alot unless the engine is turning, and even then foot to the floor would do just as well. check the sedimentor (if fitted) tucked in the rear wing IIRC
