Just put the car into an independant for a service and MOT. I've just had a call saying that its failed the test because of a diesel leak and it needs a "fuel block" They reckon £80 + vat and an hours fitting. They got me by the gonads cause its failed the test but what the hell is a "fuel block"?

sounds like some form of tank hole fixing putty

where's it leaking from ?

Dunno where its leaking from. I noticed when I dropped it off this morning that there were spots on the spare wheel cover and I washed it yesterday so that must be the diesel. I have noticed a smell of fuel sometimes coming from where the sedimenter is and I've had to empty it a couple of times over the last few months. The bird on the phone didnt seem to know **** all...typical

For £80 plus an hours labour - get it checked out first. find out exactly what it is and what needs doing and ask agin.

it sounds a bit like "bull**** baffles brains"

Just had a look in the Haynes, I reckon its the fuel pressure regulator. Famous Four do it for £72.50 + p&p, main dealer do it for £79.57 + vat so I suppose TJC are not doing me any favours but not stiching me up either.
Apparently the front discs are getting low and the drag link track rod end is showing signs of play, "do you want us to do those too" ummm, no I dont think so at £x per hour labour and main dealer parts prices.

Make sure the are not quoting just for the parts and adding labour on later.
I did mine a month or so ago and the part was 79 squid, but it is easy enough to do yourself although tiny hands are beneficial. about 45 mins to complete, have heard of other people removing a cooling hose out of way to give additional space but with a knuckle joint and a small ratchet it is no probs.. Good Luck.

Mine was 80 quid plus an hours labour which was about 39 quid at an independant.

Now they have told you what needs fixing, you can have a go at doing it yourself.

Cheers
