Ok I have had my front wipers off for the last few weeks to paint them as well as the front bumper now they are ready to go back on and I cant remember which way they go on. There is a long one and a short one I think the long one is on the driver side right?

Wrong, long one on the passenger side. Well it is on mine, just been and measured.

just fitted new wiper cable and newwiper spindles wipers keep missing centre piece on wind screen any ideas

You could try taking the arms off the spindles, run wipers, park them then refit the arms.
