Following on from my Big Rusty Thread.......While I was waiting for the welding to cool down a bit, I was having a general looksee at bits and pieces and noticed the front shock and spring.......

Should it look like this.......

Or should the shock be in the centre of the spring???



The bottom of the shock doesn't look right also.....







Does this look right or is my shock knackered too????
 
Looks like lower rubber bush location spigots are worn away, it may have metal on metal where the shock stud goes through the plate, possibly worn into plate and stud. Everything looks really rusty, brake hose fittings may be badly rusted at the swage ferrules, (under the rubber bits on the ends), that can cause failure under heavy braking.

I've got new brake pipes ready to go on. I replaced the calipers last year.

Looking at the pics again , I think I'd be better off replacing front suspension too. :(

the only thing I can say is I have bearmach hd on my 90 and they are bloody harsh as far as stiffness goes, they may be better with the weight of a disco on em though.

I think they do a std stiffness also.

There's a Bearmach place up the road from me, I think I'll pop in and see what they say.
 
i have Bearmach heavy-duty coils all round on my discovery they are very harsh ive gone for terf treck shocks as they are soft ride but the ride still rattles your fillings out
